What Is A Christian?

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 30, 2012, 9:12 AM
So, recently, I was thinking about what it means to be a Christian…and how others view Christians. As I sat in solitude, thinking about this, the Holy Spirit revealed to me a vision, a snapshot…of what He sees in Christians today. Now I understand that some of you may already know this…and that is okay. This is something that I knew…sort of. And perhaps some of you need to have your eyes opened. Maybe you are not a Christian…and you do not desire to become one...and maybe…just maybe…I can help you understand the differences.

When I decided to walk in darkness and serve Satan…one thing became very clear to me:

There are two types of Christians…the true Christian…and the false Christian. Just like there was a true follower of Satan…and a poser. Even as a Satanist…this bothered me. Even then…you would have heard me say something like this, "If you are not going to go all the way, then don't even call yourself a Christian!"

What do I mean by, 'Go all the way'? What is the difference between a true Christian and a false Christian? Is there even a difference at all?! Many non believers will look at us, as a whole, and go, "Seriously? Is this what it means to be a Christian? Why would I want to be a Christian when I can be better than that?!"

There is something seriously wrong here…do you see it?

People tend to focus on the negative…for the negative screams louder than the positive. So when non Christians look at us…all they see are our shortcomings, not what God has done through us. And it is a major turn off for them.

I am ashamed to say that I know "Christians" who are self-righteous, damn-that-person-to-hell kind of people. And it makes me sick, because I know that non believers see this and go, "Yeah, right! How about YOU go to hell, you self-righteous whatever!" (sorry for the language…but I am trying to get a point across).

We, as Christians, are supposed to represent CHRIST to those who do not believe! So what are we doing?! What are YOU doing? Are you a true follower of Christ? Or are you a poser? Are you showing others the Way, the Truth, and the Life…or are you just in it for the ride, and damn all others who stand in your way?

Are you a Christian….or a christian? You see the difference here? One is serious…the other is not. One gives all and…and the other is just in it for luck's sake.

I personally know people, adults, who call themselves Christians simply because they don't want to burn in Hell after they die…but they do not want to take up their Cross and follow Jesus…which He told us to do if we followed Him! They do not want the responsibility that comes with the title of "Christian" (which…by the way…means 'little anointed one'). (Matthew 10:38-39; Matthew 16:24-27)

WAKE UP CALL. There will be Christians who Jesus turns away from the gates of glory BECAUSE THEY DID NOT TRULY FOLLOW HIM! (Matthew 25:34-46). This is Jesus' warning to those who follow Him…to those who think they are safe (you know who you are), but who truly are not.

To me…there is little difference between a poser Christian and non-believer. If you are not in it for God's sake, for God's glory…but for your own gain…then you need to reevaluate your life and really decide if you are a Christian at all.

These words are harsh…but I am not here to please people. I am here because God called me to be a voice…there will be those of you who slam me for my words, but you will feel the prick of conviction from the Holy Spirit. It is your choice to heed that or not.

I am fully aware that people are allowed to make their own choices whether or not they desire to follow Christ or not. But this is exactly it. People should not be turning away from Christianity if Christianity is centered on Christ and what He taught us, not on what we think and shove down other people's throats (which, admit it, many of us do…though we choose to see it that way or not).

You know what turned me to atheism in the first place? A Christian woman who said she loved Jesus abused me with words, calling me a stupid b**** and an a**hole and that I was worthless to her, a worthless human being! As a child, I heard this and went, "Really? And you say that you love God and that He loves me? If you represent God…and this is how you treat me…then how will God treat me?!"

Do you understand? Non Christians watch us "Christians" like a hawk! They watch us to see if we are truly representing Christ to the world…or if we are just representing ourselves.

I am sick and tired of this, "at least I'm going to heaven when I die!" It won't mean much to me if the atheist still dies in his unbelief…or the weary one makes that fatal cut, believing that there is no other way. That there is no more hope.

PEOPLE…CHURCH…WE REPRESENT THAT HOPE! So how are you going to carry the title, the anointing, of Christ?

What kind of Christian are you? And will you change your heart if you realize that you have been wrong this entire time?

Let the commenting commence. I want feedback on this…what do you think? I will NOT get into unsounded theological debates or fights. If you have an argument that is for or against, please share it with me with proof of your argument. I desire to learn from this experience…not walk away feeling sorry for even calling myself a Christian. God bless all of you!

no...she shouldn't have...but I forgave her anyway. I think one of the craziest things I ever heard was this: I was in a car with another lady who called herself a Christian, and we were driving into town and I saw this homely looking guy walking down the street, shoulders hunched, head bowed...he looked so lonely and rough. The lady I was with (I will not say her name) took at him, and said, to my completely shock and anger, "Than man is going to Hell."

Sadly...it is comments like this, that attitude, that proves other people right when they say that Christians are self-righteous. Not all of us are like that...and that is why I wrote that piece...to show that there is a difference between a true believer in Christ...and someone who just carries the title to make themselves look "goog" to others.

This is absolutely and positively fantastic. Every Christian needs to read this. I'm so... overwhelmed. It's definitely true and it's definitely a huge problem with modern Christians. The line between truth and false is being blurred by ignorance and we need people like you to help us understand :)
This piece is well-written and relatable and very understandable. Wonderful job!

You have presented your point well. I have made this point, and I use a certain verse
as an example of righteous faith.
"And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." Job 1:21.
Job lost everything, yet still served God with all his heart, soul, mind, and might. Likewise, we should serve God regardless. I think a test of genuine faith is if they thought they were damned, would they still serve God? If they got nothing out of it, would they still do it?
The attitude shouldn't be "What's in it for me," it should be "What can I do for you?"

exactly. This is what Christ did when He came into this wicked world...He came into it not for His own gain, but for those who would have perished in eternal flames had He not come! We as believers of Christ should heed His example and follow behind Him...since we call ourselves "followers" as well. This is what I want my fellow brothers and sisters to know!

I agree with you, and I can even understand what others called judgemental or harsh, I see it as you pouring your heart out in words. Jesus preached a harsh gospel (John 6:60) and not one that "Ah, I'll make pretend I'm Christian on Sunday then tomorrow I'll return to my daily sinning life." They have no transformation, no experience with God, they dont know God. They call themselves Christians (Really a cliche) but they dont follow Christ.

I beleive that is what is most sending people to hell, the false idea that they are saved when they are not. Everybody (atleast in the Americas) call themselves Christians while they live a very sinful life. What Christianism is that? But I beleive that this happens due to the lack of seriousness of the Church both to God and to the Bible, it's like people(including Christians) don't beleive in the Bible anymore.

Like Leonard Ravenhill once said; " Why should the world take us seriously, when we(church) don't take God seriously"

yes! I agree! Someone who sees it as I see it! I know in my heart that all it takes is one person with a match to start a wildfire in the souls of others. I want people to think and look at things differently...to look at their own lives and see what they can being doing. I had to do this and let me tell you, I hated it...but I am so glad that the Holy Spirit made me look at my life...and the lives of others...through His eyes...because now there can be changes...small changes that will lead to larger changes. Our Church needs a revival.

Thank you for commenting, I appreciate it!

Yeah, people aren't willing to accept the whole Gospel. Now a days we are too worldy, we worry about getting a good car, good job, good house, but they forget our house is in heaven and our treasures are in heaven also, and the things of this world are nothing compared to what we will gain in Jesus. Rare are the people who are willing to abandon everything for Christ, although that is truly the gospel.

Your welcome! The best preacher on revival I beleive is Leonard Ravenhill, I recommend hearing some of his sermons, they impacted my spiritual life and my communion with God.

Good point, but the tone is a little but too judgmental. Best remember this: Luke 6:37-42
God does not call us to take those tones. You could have easily presented this piece in a brighter, more philisophical manner.

My desire is not to judge...and if this has come across as judgmental, then I accept responsibilty for that and will seek the Lord's counsel on it. I understand that for some, this would seem judgmental and harsh, and indeed...it is a little harsh. But sometimes you have to be firm to get a point across. I do not condemn anyone (and if I have, I will seek repentance on it). I write exactly what the Holy Spirit lays on my heart...and if I have any doubts about the contents of my writings...I do not write them down. My desire is to get people to think.

Thank you for commenting...I do appreciate it, and thank you for the Scriptural reminder...this is something I do need to keep on my heart when I write.

God bless!

thank the lord i'm not the only one that notices these people

yeah i know a few posers
some of them are innocent about it in a way because of their upbringing and childhood but when they carry it into adulthood

it a pain in my butt
or that might be the the tacoes from last night =)

but seriously
i think the most important verse to remember with this is Psalm 118:8
"It is better to trust in the Lord for protection than any other, even stong leaders"

not exactly what to say but the point is that
we should say to anyone the word oif God
The bible that is sent to us
is the final say on what defines a Christian

many people claim to be Christians but don't follow the teachings given in the bible
and unfortunately everyone else who isn't Christian take that example without looking to the Bible, the core of the Christian belief, to decide whether Christianity is worthwhile or good or right

and another major problem caused by this is people who believe in God and want to follow and serve him, are afraid to call themselves christian because of actions made by false crhistians,

some of those people are close friends of mine too
it really pisses me off (please excuse my language)

but God still gets through to them (my friends that is )
i just have to be active in my friends' faith
like training wheels in a sense

this (sorry for dragging on) stems from the common mis-conception that a church , a gathering of imperfect people, is required, is compulsary, to true faith

when all that is needed is simply the will to say that you follow christ his teachings and will lay down your life for him,
and that is needed is will and the ability to love
and God will take care of the rest
he will be Your shield, your shoulder to cry on,

the Church is more of a support group
people lean too much on the help of people when it comes to matters of faith,

sorry i think i've gone of on my own tangent there but i think my point stands for itself
i hope =)

Awesome. Awesome awesome awesome awesome. I know what you're getting at. One of the online pastors I listen to occasionally calls it "Christian Atheism", where people claim to believe in Jesus but live as if He isn't real. I'm so glad you posted this. Thank you for sharing the revelation.
